Tea and Sympathy for Me

For all you tea lovers out there, take note. Yesterday was indeed a tealicious day. My boyfriend took me to Tea & Sympathy, an adorable british grub and yum spot located near the West Village. While my bf had a taste for all things ginger, tea and cake. I had cravings of the apple persuasion. I was served an amazing bowl of apple crumble, and I must say it was the best apple anything I've had since I moved to NYC. It was tart but still sweet. Crumbly but still gooey. It was, spot on! With my crumble I had a classic cup of Tea & Sympathy's own English Breakfast brew with milk and sugar.

I couldn't recommend this place more. It is small, cozy and fairly priced. You can get anything your British heart desires. Bangers and Mash, custards, teas, and sausages! I haven't seen anything like it since I was actually in England.

Tea & Sympathy is located at 108 Greenwich Ave. Also, take a moment to peek into their shop, where you can find rare British Candies, teas and foods.

A Saturday at the Met

New York has been a gross puddle lately and no one has enjoyed it, except my boyfriend whom for some reason enjoys rainy days (he's cute but strange sometimes). Either way, Saturday was a gorgeous diversion from our recent mucky muck fest. We even got a little sunshine for a whole 8 hours.

For me and my boyfriend's day off together we decided to visit the MET, where we saw the Alexander McQueen exhibit. It was absolutely amazing and totally worth the visit up to the Upper East Side. They did a fabulous job, much better than last years American Woman exhibit, which was a total drag. McQueen was bold, colorful, edgy, daring, sexy, and fascinating. Really inspiring stuff. A must see if you are visiting or live in the NYC area.

After McQueen we wondered upstairs to the rooftop garden, which had a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline (from the middle). Once we finished our little photo session we took a little walk through Central Park, and then headed downtown to the East Village where we had just missed a parade that we weren't sure what the theme was. We dined on tacos at Hop Devil with some friends and then chilled at a bar where we watched a rather exciting horse race. The coverage nearly went on for an hour but the race itself was only 60 secs, but those 60 secs were rather exhilarating.

Well, for now we are back to rain clouds and muck but maybe my photos of sunshine, smiles and my cute coral dress can keep your day bright.

Top: A cute bag that I made at my old job. I pressed an image that my BF had drawn, onto a canvas tote. Added buttons and called it cute. It is small and light, which is why I love it. What is even better is that it is an original and I know that no one else has it.

Middle: Vintagy sunnies I bought at Anthropologie last year and have some how miraculously not broken or lost yet.

Bottom: Me at the rooftop garden at the Met. Feeling easy and breezy while soaking up some vitamin D.

Zooey Deschanel is The New Girl

I absolutely luurvveee Zooey Deschanel. All those bangs, puff sleeves and super cute vintage dresses. It's all very inspiring for a little tomboy, girly girl wannabe like me.

When Zooey isn't being mega cute and fashionable she's making the big cheddar by starring in thoughtful indie flicks like (500) Days of Summer (with my pretend boyfriend Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and singing tasty pop tunes with her guitar pal M. Ward in She & Him. Now, Zooey is bringing awesomely hilarious girl humor to the small screen with a new show hitting the Fox lineup called, The New Girl.

Zooey plays a girl on the rebound from a surprise break up from her boyfriend whom she just found cheating on her. Zooey's character then moves in with three dudes that have no clue how to deal with a girl in fresh breakup mode. Cue the loud weeping, messy hair and need to relate every horrible feeling to a song.

The New Girl is set to premier during Fox's pilot season and hopefully will be picked up for a full season in the fall.

Enjoy!

Etsy Find of the Week: Messenger Stripes Bag

For nearly a year I've tried to avoid stripes and anything that made me look like I was on my way to a mime convention, but no longer shall I hold myself back from the fun which is horizontal hipness.

No Doors on Toilets

I'm not a huge Ricky Gervais fan, but you gotta admit he is a genius for creating hilarious programming (i.e. The Office, Extras). Here, friend and source of utmost amusement, Karl Pilkington travels the world in search of worldly understanding, which pretty much boils down to him getting annoyed and confused by everything that is "different". In this clip Karl encounters public restrooms in China for the first time on
An Idiot Abroad. Enjoy!

Am I Wearing Pants?

This is something, that on a daily basis, grinds my gears. Girls wearing leggings in place of good ole' fashion pants has become a trend amongst the "trendy", the delusional and the lazy. While leggings make warm winter subs for tights under skirts in the winter, and serve as comfy apparel for gym activity, they still haven't been set firmly in their place as to what their real purpose is.

Substitute for pants, they are not!

Not This: Leggings are a no-go when paired
with a blouse or top that hits at the waistline.
If you gotta show it off, just wear a pair of skinny leg jeans.
They are usually more forgiving and usually don't give
you the appearance that you just rolled out of the bed.
Do This: Leggings pair well with
extra long blouses, dresses and skirts.
Consider fun colors and designs to
pair with simple, understated tops.

Check out this funny and informative chart on how to figure out if what you are wearing out the door in the morning classify as pants or as leggings disguised as pants, because no one wants to see your VPL and/or cameltoe first thing in the morning.

I know it is a little morbid but I LOVE SKELETONS. I think they are super funny. They're all smiley and clanky. How can't you love them?

Either way, to kick off my new Etsy Find of the Week segment, I wanted to feature something I absolutely lurve. This upcycled print over an old 8x10 dictionary page is perfection for a room that may border on too girly or for the guy that needs that extra edgy touch for his pad.
The best part about this print is its super low price tag.
